PPGI, also known as pre-painted galvanized iron, is a type of pre-coated steel that is often made with a hot-dip galvanized steel substrate. It is referred to by various names such as pre-coated steel, coil-coated steel, or color-coated steel. The term PPGI is an extension of GI, which is the traditional abbreviation for Galvanized Iron. Galvanizing provides cathodic and barrier protection to the base steel, while the paint coating acts as an additional barrier, significantly reducing the corrosion rate of the zinc.
Galvanized steel (PPGI) is fully coated with zinc, whereas Galvalume steel (PPGL) is coated with aluminum, zinc, and a small amount of silicone. This combination provides superior corrosion resistance and durability compared to typical galvanized coatings.
PPGI coils find primary applications in the automotive and construction industries. They are commonly used for manufacturing building materials such as roof panels, roof tiles, sandwich panels, and more.
